Sheena is a dedicated campaigner for the Plant Based Treaty, a global initiative that addresses the climate and ecological crises by placing food systems at the forefront of the solution. The campaign creates grassroots pressure on national governments to adopt a Plant Based Treaty, which would act as a companion to the Paris Agreement and provide countries with a roadmap to transition to a plant-based food system. The treaty aims to halt the destruction of ecosystems driven by animal agriculture, advocate for a shift toward healthier, more sustainable plant-based lifestyles, and promote city, state, and national policies that protect our planet’s future.
Recently, Sheena celebrated a significant victory when Darebin City Council became the first Australian city council (and the world’s 30th), to endorse the Plant Based Treaty and incorporate food based strategies within their climate action plans. With overwhelming support, the motion passed with eight votes in favour and only one against, joining global cities like Los Angeles, Amsterdam, and Edinburgh.
As a loving mother of her 8 year old son, Morgan, Sheena’s passion for creating a kinder, more compassionate world is deeply rooted in her desire to ensure a brighter future for the next generation. Through her work, she inspires others to take action for the planet and for the well-being of all living beings.
I chose this recipe because, as a busy mom, I prefer simple nutritious dishes with at least a few ingredients that can be cooked together—in this case, almost everything is roasted in the oven at once. Being of Indian background, I love incorporating a bit of spice, which my family enjoys too so I love the harissa flavors in this recipe. I also aim for meals that have all the elements (fiber, carbohydrates, protein and fats) to keep me and my very hungry growing 8 year old son satiated.
