Jan is a trailblazer in the vegan hospitality scene, transforming her passion for compassionate living into Australia’s longest-running all-vegan bed and breakfast, The Beet Retreat. Jan has navigated the complexities of life and business with resilience and heart, establishing a haven that embodies hope, gratitude, and purpose.

Jan’s journey into veganism began in 2012 when the pain of witnessing animal cruelty in food production ignited a fire within her. The profound sense of well-being and vitality that followed motivated her to share this transformative lifestyle with others. In 2014, during a time of deep reflection while serving in the Victoria Police Mounted Branch, she embraced her evolving values and opened her doors to guests on her 20-acre property in Victoria. What started as a humble venture quickly blossomed into a thriving retreat, attracting guests eager to experience plant-based living and culinary delights.

In 2019, Jan relocated to the picturesque Noosa region, where she could further align her mission with her growing commitment to climate action. At The Beet Retreat, guests not only savour delicious, healthy meals but also explore sustainable lifestyle choices that benefit both animals and the planet.

In the midst of all that, Jan is an avid runner. She has completed multiple endurance running adventures and ultra-trail races.

With her warm hospitality and inspiring vision, Jan hopes to empower her guests to help craft a kinder, more sustainable world.
