Cris has been vegan since 1990 and is the passionate founder of Great Vegan Athletes (GVA), a website dedicated to showcasing how a plant-based lifestyle enhances, rather than hinders, health and athletic performance. His journey to veganism began after learning about the cruelty animals endure in farming, realizing he could stop contributing to it by making the switch. What surprised him most was how easy the transition was. Over time, Cris discovered many other compelling reasons to stay vegan, from global food sustainability and environmental impact to health benefits. Any one of these reasons alone, he believes, is enough to make veganism the clear choice.
For Cris, running GVA is not just a job but an exciting adventure. The site highlights inspiring stories of athletes who defy stereotypes and prove that veganism fuels success in competitive sports. He continually finds himself amazed by their achievements and loves sharing these stories with the world. Knowing that people are inspired to learn more about veganism and even take on the Vegan Easy Challenge through GVA’s platform is deeply rewarding for him.
An active individual himself, Cris enjoys running on moorlands and woodland trails for fun and has completed events up to marathon distance. In recent years, he has focused on powerlifting and proudly broke a regional age group record in the bench press. Despite frequently covering the feats of elite athletes, Cris humorously claims the title of the “worst vegan athlete” connected with the site—but his dedication to promoting veganism in sports remains unmatched.
Spicy tempeh stir fry. It’s a quick and easy way to get so quality nutrition after a hard gym session, and easy to make variations depending on what’s in the cupboard, nutritional goals and what I fancy. It also tastes great!
