Billie is a visionary animal advocate, writer, filmmaker, and spiritual teacher with a profound dedication to interspecies understanding and peace. As the co-founder of A Place of Peace Farm Animal and Wild Horse Sanctuary, Billie has created a haven where animals are honoured as wise, soulful beings and where their stories are shared with a compassionate audience. Her journey began in her early years, as a highly sensitive child who felt a deep connection with animals, plants, and the natural world. Raised in the country, she witnessed the harsh treatment of animals and found herself at odds with the normalized cruelty around her. This early empathy shaped her life’s mission to be a voice for animals and to help create a world where they are safe, respected, and celebrated.
Billie’s path has been anything but conventional. Guided by her innate connection to animals and nature, she ventured into the creative arts, working as a writer and performer across various media. Alongside her husband, Andrew, an award-winning fantasy author, Billie co-founded A Place of Peace, where the two have dedicated their lives to rescuing and caring for animals. Their sanctuary is more than a refuge; it’s a space of healing and harmony, embodying the Indigenous Prophecy of Peace that Billie holds dear.
Over nearly four decades, Billie has pursued a calling as an interspecies communicator, offering insights into the inner lives of animals through her writing, teaching, and filmmaking. Her book, Secret Animal Business, explores her work as an animal communicator and spiritual guide, inviting readers to see the world from a compassionate, interconnected perspective. Through her sanctuary, the Deep Peace Trust, and her storytelling, Billie inspires others to embrace a lifestyle of empathy and respect for all beings, believing that true peace on Earth can be achieved through kindness and understanding. As she says, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for”—the time for positive change is now.
I first served this at a winter solstice gathering where we had a vegan version of a somewhat traditional Celtic solstice meal. It was a really yummy end to a lovely evening and had us talking about it for weeks. This is also perfect for those special nights in by the fire with a good book or a friend, a winter breakfast or afternoon slump wake up, or just when you feel like you need to be reminded you are special!
