Q What made you become a vegan and when?

Sharon: I became a vegetarian over thirty years ago as a child after I discovered where my food came from. I didn’t want others to suffer and/or die for my taste. And then I learned that I could be healthy and thrive without any animal based foods. I’m a vegan because I don’t need to be any other way to be happy and healthy…and have fun!

Q What’s your favourite meal?

Sharon: So sad….home made chips or mashed spuds with gravy, peas, mashed pumpkin and veggie sausages; or veggie risotto; or roast veggies; or pasta with chilli sauce…mmmm I’m into my food! Its hard to play favourites!

Q What do you cook the best, do you have a favourite recipe you’d like to share?

Sharon: I tend to throw things together, like roast chick peas, pine nuts, roast spuds and other veggies, then make a sauce with coconut milk, spices and herbs etc. It tastes great, but it’s different every time because I never write it down. I like to be creative with flavour…not get too stuck in formula, it makes it more fun!

Q Are many of your family and friends vegans?

Sharon: none of my family, but some friends are vegan

Q What makes you happy?

Sharon: Laughter and life….the simple stuff….breathing and being above ground…and not taking it for granted. We are so lucky we can make our own choices…

Q What do you do to relax and unwind?

Sharon: Walk my girls (Meg and Mae – my canine friends), go jogging, catch up with friends for a refreshing beverage and nibbles

Q How do you keep fit?

Sharon: Gym work, weights, jogging, walking, yoga and swimming in summer…but I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to cold water!

Q Do you have a favourite movie/book/blog that inspired you that you’d like to share with readers?

Sharon: My favourite movie is Harvey starring James Stewart, and reading “Edgars Mission Trottings”, and Edgars Mission really!

Q Do you have a favourite restaurant?

Sharon: Any that will cater to vegans!!

Q What’s been the best part of being a vegan?

Sharon: Being healthy and happy – with a sense of humour. And blowing the ‘stereotype’ of what we are supposed to be and look like out of the water!

Q Have you found any difficulties being vegan?

Sharon: Not really, they are other peoples issues, not mine.

Q Is there anything else you’d like to say or add?

Sharon: Give it a go, do what you can to make a difference, none of us are perfect, just do your best!
