Vegemite Pinwheels

These easy vegan pinwheels are the ultimate savoury snack – packed with cheesy, umami flavour and perfect for lunchboxes, party platters, or an after-school treat. Just 3 ingredients and ready in under 30 minutes! Recipe by Jack.

Serves 6 pinwheels | Prep time: 5 mins | Cooking time: 15 mins

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sheet vegan puff pastry, thawed
  • 1-2 tsp Vegemite (adjust to taste)
  • Grated vegan cheese
  • Optional: Sprinkle of nutritional yeast

METHOD

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Place thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Gently roll it out to remove any creases.
  3. Spread a thin, even layer of Vegemite across the sheet. Top with grated vegan cheese and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast if using.
  4. Carefully roll the sheet into a log, then slice into 6 even pinwheels.
  5. Arrange pinwheels on the prepared tray with some space between each.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden and puffed. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes:

  • These are best enjoyed warm but can also be eaten cold – perfect for school lunchboxes.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for extra crispiness.
  • You can prep these ahead of time and freeze the uncooked pinwheels – just pop them in the oven from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the cook time.
